How to find a Mac serial number and warranty information

INSTRUCTIONS TO FIND YOUR MAC SERIAL NUMBER

If your computer will turn on, you can click on the Apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen and then click on About This Mac to find the serial number.

If your computer will not turn on, you can look on the bottom of the laptop for the serial number. It will be etched in very small characters after the words Serial No.:
Here is a sample serial number found on the bottom of a Mac laptop.

Mac Serial Number

If you have trouble with these methods, there are some tips on this page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204308

Once you have your serial number, you can use it to check on your warranty or accidental damage coverage.  Warranty covers manufacturer defects. Accidental coverage covers accidents that caused the laptop to fail.

If you would like to check on your Mac's warranty, you can go to this page:  https://checkcoverage.apple.com.

If your laptop is covered by Safeware (accidental damage coverage) and you need to know if the policy is still in effect,  you can go to this page:  https://www.safeware.com/lookup  and use the serial number to look up your coverage.  If the serial number was entered incorrectly at the time of purchase, you may have some other options to look up by your last name or other choices. Remember that if your parents purchased the laptop for you, you might need to try their information.
